The ASTROSE monitoring system was piloted in September 2014 with a 110kV overhead power line in the Harz mountains (Saxony-Anhalt). A total of 59 sensor nodes were installed on a section of the 23 km power line. The stationary base station and ASTROSE server were located in the grid substation at Rieder.
The section of the grid equipped with the ASTROSE sensor nodes is located on the foothills of the Harz mountains, crossing the Selke valley and the uplands on the eastern side of the Harz range.
Ever since its installation, monitoring data has been received from the line every 15 minutes and stored on the server. The received data is checked every day by simple remote maintenance.
With more than 2 million individual datasets received every year since the installation of the system, ASTROSE has proven its durability and practical worth.
