In order to meet the energy transition and the associated challenges for the infrastructure, Pfalzwerke Netz AG www.pfalzwerke-netz.de has successfully invested in the development of the low-power data transmission technology LoRaWAN. For this purpose, a system of LoRaWAN gateways covering the network area was established, which allows the transmission of sensor data from various areas of life, e.g. meter readings, weather data, filling levels of containers.

Since Pfalzwerke Netz AG is very interested in monitoring its high-voltage lines, an ASTROSE system equipped with LoRaWAN radio technology was installed in the 110 kV network. With the measurement data provided by ASTROSE, such as conductor rope temperature, current strength and voltage, among others, further optimization of network operation is now possible.
