  • For the qualification of the new generation of ASTROSE wireless sensors high voltage tests for the 380kV voltage level were carried out. The focus was on the dielectric strength of the entire system and the immunity to interference from partial discharges and transient processes such as lightning strikes or switching surges.

    On July 1, 2020 the research project ASTROSE-MAGIC started with the partners DResearch Digital Media Systems GmbH, Pfalzwerke Netz AG, LTB Leitungsbau GmbH, TU Berlin and the Fraunhofer Institute for Reliability and Microintegration. The project is partly funded for 3 years by the German government.

  • Ice tests at Fraunhofer IFAM

    The Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Applied Materials Research IFAM in Bremen has a state-of-the-art ice laboratory with integrated wind tunnel. With temperatures down to -30°C and wind speeds of up to 350 km/h, unique working conditions and practical applications can be simulated.

    Switzerland’s national power grid operator Swissgrid AG is the owner and sole operator of the 4200 miles of powerlines, 146 substations, and around 12000 pylons of the Alpine country’s 380kV and 220kV grid. This gives Swissgrid a lead role in Switzerland’s renewable energy revolution.

    Pilot for ice load detection

    As a regional grid operator, LEW Verteilnetz GmbH (LVN) is responsible for the reliable and safe operation of the power grid in its region. The LVN grid supplies the Bavarian county of Swabia and parts of Upper Bavaria with almost 22000 miles of power lines, including 1200 miles of high voltage lines. Parts of the grid are situated in regions where winters traditionally bring with them heavy frost and ice load on the lines.

  • New pilot line in Rieder

    Weitere Pilotstrecke in Rieder

    A new pilot line was installed and commissioned in the second half of November at the Rieder substation in partnership with the MITNETZ Strom GmbH. The new installation includes permanent monitoring of all three power lines to capture even ad-hoc power or voltage peaks caused by earth faults or transient faults.
